Jargon
All up to win
- The place part of an each way bet being taken at same
price as win when there are insufficient runners to merit places
being paid
Ante post -
making a bet on an event in advance with a specific cut off point
at set odds before markets open fully and fluctuate
Any to come ATC
- Bet consisting of more than one selection where from any
returns on the first selection there will be a further bet of
specific stake on the next selection eg £5 on horse A with £5 ATC
from returns on horse B
Co favourite -
3 or more participants with the same odds as favourites on
event
Dead heat - 2
or more runners finish in the same time
Each way - win
and place bet on a selection
Equally divided
- on a multiple each way bet it is how the win and
place stake amounts for the next selection are attributed, most
commonly all ruturns are split equally on next each way
selection
Evens - odds
where you will return double your stake back
Favourite -
entry with shortest odds and most likely winner
Fold - the
number of selections in an accumulator
Full cover - a
bet covering all combinations of accumulator for the number of
selections
Joint favourite
- where 2 selections are considered favourites and have
same odds
Multiple - a
bet consisting of 2 or more selections
Non runner -
where participant pulls out of race or event before it
starts
Odds - the
price set by bookmakers on a selection to win an event
Odds against -
where the price is greater than 2/1
Odds on -
where the participant is favourite and odds are shorter than
evens
Permutation -
the number of different combinations of bets there are from given
selections
Place - a
finishing position that gets paid at reduced odds
Place terms -
set out the number of places including winner that are paid and how
the odds or reduced
Rule 4 - this
is a deduction on the amount you are paid out on winnings when
participants pull out of event and odds have been
taken
Void - where
bet stake is returned as a non runner event
