The 3 most basic bets are

Win - the selection MUST win
Place - the selection must finish in the top runners dependent on event and odds are reduced from win terms
Each way EW - 2 bets of equal stake combining the win and place
Bet Types
 
Accumulator - one bet featuring multiple selections that all must win to be paid. Most common bet on football
Alphabet - 26 bets on 6 different selections that are numbered 1 2 3 4 5 6 and then form 2 patents (123) and (456) a Yankee (2 3 4 5) and an accumulator
Double - 2 selection in one bet that both must win
Double stakes about DSA - 2 selections with ATC bets on each one. The ATC bet must be double the initial stake
Flag - 23 bets on 4 selections consisting of a Yankee plus permed SSA
Goliath - 247 bets over 8 selections. consisting of accumulator, 7 folds (8) 6 folds (28) 5 folds (56) 4 folds (70) trebles (56) doubles (28)
Heinze - 6 selections covered by 57 bets consisting of accumulator, 5 folds (6) 4 folds (15) trebles (20) doubles (15)
Lucky 15 - 15 bets on 4 selections consisting of accumulator, trebles (4) doubles (6) singles (4)
Lucky 31 - 31 bets on 5 selections consisting of accumulator, 4 folds (5) trebles (10) doubles (10) and singles (5)

Round robin - 3 selections which combine a trixie and SSA
Single - one selection that must win
Single stakes about SSA - 2 selections which have an ATC bet of equal stake to initial bet
Super flag - 5 selections comprising 46 bets combining a super yankee and SSA
Super yankee/ canadian - 5 selections comprising of 26 bets accumulator, 4 folds (5) trebles (10) doubles (10)
Treble - 3 selections all must win
Trixie - 3 selections combing a treble and doubles (3)
Union jack - 9 selections set in rows of 3 giving 9 trebles
Yankee - 4 selections covered by 11 bets, accumulator trebles (4) doubles (6)
 


Popular Football Betting Markets

  • Match result - selecting which team will win the game or if it will end in a draw 
  • Correct score - predicting the score of the game
  • First/ anytime goalscorer - predicting who will score the first goal or picking player to score at anytime during the game (first goalscorer bets can be placed each way usually at 1/3 odds)
  • Scorecast - predicting the correct score and first goalscorer
  • Wincast - selecting correct first goalscorer and the winning team
  • Match handicaps - selecting match result with one team given a specified goals for or against handicap during the game

Betting Terms and Jargon
 
All up to win - The place part of an each way bet being taken at same price as win when there are insufficient runners to merit places being paid
Ante post - making a bet on an event in advance with a specific cut off point at set odds before markets open fully and fluctuate
Any to come ATC - Bet consisting of more than one selection where from any returns on the first selection there will be a further bet of specific stake on the next selection eg £5 on horse A with £5 ATC from returns on horse B
Co favourite - 3 or more participants with the same odds as favourites on event
Dead heat - 2 or more runners finish in the same time
Each way - win and place bet on a selection
Equally divided - on a multiple each way bet it is how  the win and place stake amounts for the next selection are attributed, most commonly all ruturns are split equally on next each way selection
Evens - odds where you will return double your stake back
Favourite - entry with shortest odds and most likely winner
Fold - the number of selections in an accumulator
Full cover - a bet covering all combinations of accumulator for the number of selections
Joint favourite - where 2 selections are considered favourites and have same odds
Multiple - a bet consisting of 2 or more selections
Non runner - where participant pulls out of race or event before it starts
Odds - the price set by bookmakers on a selection to win an event
Odds against - where the price is greater than 2/1
Odds on - where the participant is favourite and odds are shorter than evens
Permutation - the number of different combinations of bets there are from given selections
Place - a finishing position that gets paid at reduced odds
Place terms - set out the number of places including winner that are paid and how the odds or reduced
Rule 4 - this is a deduction on the amount you are paid out on winnings when participants pull out of event and odds have been taken
Void - where bet stake is returned as a non runner event
